Book Review: The Journey of Desire
by Nikki Riffey
If you are looking for a fantastic read, get ready to delve into “The Journey of Desire: Searching for the Life We’ve Only Dreamed Of,” by John Eldridge. This book is the sequel to “The Sacred Romance,” by Brent Curtis and John Eldridge. I read the book out of sequence, but I wasn’t confused nor did it hinder my reading experience.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. I’ve read several of his works and it is very apparent that he loves Jesus and he is definitely being used to further the kingdom. I particularly enjoy his love of literature and his knowledge of the Bible. If you are interested, he provides interesting quotes by other authors at the beginning of each chapter. After reading this book, I had found several other authors that I wanted to read.
Jesus taught me a lot about myself as I read this book. I was reminded that I have a tendency of seeking other forms of pleasure rather than truly waiting on Jesus when I am overwhelmed or when life is difficult (i.e. Mochas, chocolate, or food in general). I am learning that when I desire Jesus and his will in my life I will be choosing vulnerability over self protection. He is saying wait, trust me and I will protect you. Jesus used this book to address those issues in my life, but beyond that, the book is packed full of biblical wisdom. It’s one that I look forward to reading again in the future. I would recommend reading this book to anyone. So grab a cup of coffee and head off to your favorite place to read. You will not be disappointed.
